The Ballad of Sir Gatling
A downloadable game for Windows
The Forest King and his wretched hordes are at the gates. It will take a brave, skilful and chivalrous knight indeed to drive them back down the bridge from Castlekeep Citadel: A strong, good and honourable knight named “Sir Gatling”.
Sir Gatling must use his training of feet, shield and gatling sword to leap, lunge, smash, slash, bash and of course riddle the silvan beasts with bullets. Only a knight most skilful will vanquish this nemoral horror with their honour intact. (Once again we refer of course to Sir Gatling, a most exemplary and virtuous knight.)
Remember your training, goode knight! But, if you should falter, refer to your notes by pressing escape.

We clearly still need to do some work on communicating what the "spans" are. FYI every time you push the boss back past one of the arches it progresses to the next span. You'll see a banner drop from the top of the screen telling you which span you've reached (same time as your health gets recharged).
The goal is to push to the end of the bridge, at which point you'll win the game. Once you knock him down he's vulnerable so you can keep pushing him for a bit before he gets back up.
Also: You can perform a horizontal slash by pressing attach while holding your shield up, and then hold attack to spin your gun up quicker.
Okay, I've played it a lot (a lot) more. Apart from being viciously, and incredibly difficult, it is an excellent work that has exceeded my expectations. I think it's because I don't play many FPS, but I haven't had this much fun with a game of this style in a long time. It's simple but its combos give it a lot of grace and dynamism, and its bizarre and spectacular art won me over (I love how the weakest enemies from far away look like goblins but up close they are cute green dogs).
I take this opportunity to say that I use a computer made more than 10 years ago. And the game, except for things like fire, works and works well, and with the 3D graphics it has is something that I appreciate a lot, Excellent optimization!
I'll play it from time to time to try to complete it, I can't get past the fourth span ahahaha.
That's great to hear, Shafla. Flattered by your compliments on the art. It was a bit of experiment for us so I'm very glad to hear that it resonates.
I was concerned about the performance impact of all the particle effects, especially the fire and such. We've actually put almost no time into optimising the game yet (besides making some high level decisions like limiting the number of enemies) so it's possible that we could get it running even better in the future.
If you're having trouble getting past span 4 I could suggest using leap a lot more to stay nimble (esp. to dodge the boss's seeker shots), and always using the shortcut transition from slash to high gatling instead of holding attack from neutral.

Super Hard- Super Fun-
This game is insanely good. I think it has an extra boss or two and some progression and its a gem. Also theres a bug that you can start the gattling gun charge while you are doing a slash or a lunge. I dont know if thats on purpose but it does feel really satisfying to do. Amazing game though, crazy that it was made in 7 days.

Fantastic Game! But i need to point that you can't really make use of the shooting mechanic, in normal combat is always better to use the sword. at least you can use it for shooting the birds.

You must have the gatling at full spin to do the 💥MIGHTY THRUST💥, the most powerful technique. Also it's great for mowing down those pesky sloblins!
Thanks for the tip, those hordes were really annoying me so I will try to use it more often. the problem was probably relative to my low skill level and I hope that you keep working on the game.
Excellent game!!! I was overwhelmed and confused by the complexity of everything related to the map, but everything else is beautiful!!! it's too vicious and frenetic! And the art so weird, along with those sound effects and interface.... Very nice job!
